Our 1st Anniversary

I can't believe that it has already been one year! This past year has been so great and we both absolutely love married life. Ryan is the best husband, he is so patient and understanding, I am so lucky to have him!! Since we celebrated over the weekend we just had a simple night out and went down to the beach

We decided to go with the traditional anniversary gifts and year one is paper. I made Ryan a "love notes" book. The idea behind it is that we can leave each other little notes and it is something that we'll be able to keep forever to look back on.

Ryan got me a children's book called "Guess How Much I Love You" It was a really sweet present.

Here are the flowers that Ryan got me, they are so pretty and our entire apartment smells like roses!

Since me and Ryan ate the top tier of our cake on our first month anniversary I decided to make German Chocolate cupcakes for tonight. That was the flavor on the top layer of our wedding cake, they turned out good but not quite as tasty as Beverly's Best!

We have really enjoyed our first year of marriage and are looking forward to many more years and memories together

Ryan's Birthday Surprise in Carlsbad

This weekend I surprised Ryan with a trip down to Carlsbad for both his birthday, which was on Saturday, and an early anniversary celebration, which is on Monday. I told him that I had made reservations at a restaurant down there on Friday night and luckily he didn't ask too many questions about why we were driving all the way down there for dinner (its about 30 minutes away) when we never go there! I was giving him the directions and he was so surprised and excited when I told him to pull into the hotel parking lot and that we were going to be staying there for the weekend. I had packed our bags and found that it was actually harder than I thought it would be to do without him noticing and almost got caught when he was trying to find something in the bathroom right before we left! We had such a fun relaxing weekend laying by the pool, going to the beach, going out and sleeping in. It was so nice to just get away for a few nights.

Ryan opening his birthday present, I got him a camera to take with him on his work trips

Laying out by the pool. It was sunny but really windy so it was too cold to lay out until I came up with the ingenius plan to make our own little wind blockers with the chairs. It looked a little funny but worked perfect and we got to stay out in the sun all day! We both did get a little sunburned but it was all in good fun!

Enjoying the view of the ocean, it was too windy to stay there long though!

Our hotel backed up to Lego Land, you can see the castle and one of the roller coasters in the back

Out to dinner on Saturday, Happy Birthday Ryan!!

Splish Splash

Sean and Ashley came out from Georgia to visit this past weekend but unfortunately Ryan was gone until Friday night and had to leave Sunday again for Minnesota and I had to work Thursday, Friday and Sunday so we didn't get to spend too much time with them. Luckily we all decided to go to Sea World on Saturday and had so much fun. We went to all the shows and checked out the animals.

Karen and Landon waiting for the show to start

Uncle Ryan with Abbey Doo and Uncle Seany with Landos

Watching the dolphin show, they can jump so high!!

I forced Ryan to take this picture, aren't we cute little penguins?!

It was great to have you here for the weekend Sean and Ash, see you in July in North Carolina!

Lindsey's Shower

I decided since I couldn't go up to Utah for Lindsey's shower that I would have one down in California for her. I had so much planning it because we decided to do it in all leopard print, which both Linz and I absolutely love. I tied the invitations with leopard print ribbon, ordered paper lanterns in black, brown and cream (leopard print colors), bought leopard print plates and napkins, ordered leopard print cupcakes, and even got Linz a leopard print bikini!! So it was definitely a leopard print shower. We played a few games, including the bubble gum game where I asked Matthew questions and then Linz had to see how many questions she got right. I had fun calling Matthew and hearing all of his answers and his confidence that she would only miss 2-3 (But it was more like 9 1/2!!) It was a fun night and Lizz got some great gifts. I can't believe she's getting married in just 2 1/2 weeks! We are so excited to have Matthew join the family and are looking forward to the wedding.

The leopard print cupcakes, they were so good!

Happy Campers

So let me just start out by saying that I am NOT a camper!! Sydney and I decided a few weeks ago that it would be really fun to do a camping trip over memorial day weekend. Well who knew that in Southern California that is like the biggest weekend for camping!! We could only get a site at Joshua Tree, so we just booked it then decided that camping in the middle of the desert this time of year might not be the best idea and a hotel in Palm Springs was sounding pretty good. As it got closer the weather wasn't quite good enough for laying out and swimming in Palm Springs so on Friday (the night before we left!) we decided to look into camping again. I found a site up in the San Bernardino mountains that seemed perfect, checked the weather and the day was supposed to be 74 and at night the low was 54 so we decided we'd give it a shot. We finally got all our stuff together on Saturday, went grocery shopping and we were all on our way. Only problem was that neither Ryan or Chris looked at the directions before we left, leaving it up to me and Syd. So 4 hours later we finally made it up there (it only took us and hour and a half to get home!) after driving 30 miles past Palm Springs! As we were driving farther and farther up the mountain we watched at the temperature go from 60 down to 48 then down to 42 pretty soon after that we started seeing snow on the ground as the temp dropped down into the 30's...It was so cold!! So as it turns out I had checked the temperature for the bottom of the mountain, not the top where we would be staying! It was in the low 30's during the day and into the 20's at night. Needless to say we weren't quite prepared for how cold it was going to be and I was made fun of the whole trip about the 54 degree mix up.

Ryan and Chris decided to be really manly and start a fire using a flint and a knife. They were so cute trying to get the fire started and wouldn't give up. But eventually after about 30 minutes of relentlessly trying and me and Syd freezing and wanting to get dinner started they splashed a little lighter fluid in the pit and tried one more time. It instantly started and as you can see by the picture they were so proud of themselves for making fire! We made a delicious dinner of hot dogs and beans and for dessert we made s'mores. I absolutely love anything chocolate and peanut butter so instead of using regular chocolate we tried making them with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups...so good! I strongly suggest next time you're making s'mores to give it a try, we all loved them. We spent the whole trip huddled around the fire, eating, and me and Sydney were entertained by Ryan and Chris acting like Bear Grylls. (The guy from man vs. wild, which explains the starting the fire without matches!)

Me and Sydney down by the lake

Bear Grylls wannabes hanging from the tree they decided to climb

Hanging out by the fire (isn't my outfit stylish?! I had on Ryan's sweatshirt over mine!)

The sign where we bought our wood, we thought it was so funny!!

It was a really fun trip but I'm pretty sure that next time we go somewhere I'm not going to be in charge of the directions or looking up the weather!!
